For the past few months, multi-instrumentalist Reapz has been taking over TikTok with a mix of covers and original tracks performed on a ukelele (and occasionally a piano), and they’ve been building some serious momentum. Our appetites whetted, he’s now followed through with his debut studio track, “Hood Favourite”.
His ukelele is still at the heart of it, but he’s linked up with JAE5 to flesh the track out, give it some snappy percussion and a big old bass line. It’s already been playlisted on 1Xtra and it’s easy to see why it’s become such a runaway success. Purpose-built for summer functions in the park, it’s packed with quotable about dodging drama and being a “retail worker, keeping it gangster”.
For the visuals, he’s kept the portrait layout style that’ll keep it circulating on TikTok and Instagram, but he has of course given it the polish and finesse the track deserves. Moving away from Stratford station (the setting for his first few videos), Reapz headed home to Tottenham to shake a leg with the team and draft in some fans for cameos.
